Is global warming a hoax or the truth? Some people claim that it’s a hoax, and some claim it’s the truth (some just don’t really care). Well, let’s gather the facts.
Let’s start with the it’s-the-truth point of view. The earth is warming rapidly, faster than is normal. Ice is disappearing, and weather is turning extreme. Corals, extremely sensitive to changes in temperature, are bleaching. People are pouring way too much CO2 into the air. This, from the non-skeptic’s point of view, is caused by humans. Small, barely noticeable changes in temperature are normal. But the earth is warming rapidly. Apparently, this is caused by humans producing too much carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas. We can’t deny that the Earth is warmer than it was. Then there’s the skeptic’s point of view. The earth isn’t warming globally. It’s only warming in the northern hemisphere. It isn’t warming anymore (apparently, that stopped around 1900s). Also, Earth has natural heating and cooling periods. According to Milutin Milankovitch’s calculations, we should be entering an ice age soon (Milutin Milankovitch made these calculations in the 1900s, but evidence shows that his calculations were correct). Also, CO2 and greenhouse gases aren’t supposed to have much of a say in Earth’s heating. Increased CO2 should have stimulated plant growth. Lots of evidence seems to be conflicting here. Is global warming a hoax? Is it reality? It’s pretty much depending on your point of view. Clearly, we can’t just make all human traces disappear and see what happens. Carbon dioxide stays in the atmosphere for a long time. We can’t really just ask a neutral party—they too would be conflicted and biased. In other words, there’s really no saying whether global warming’s true or false. So, in the end, I guess you can only really wait and see whether global warming is a hoax or not. Personally, I’d not get worked up over it, but just in case, I’d try to avoid worsening it (assuming it does exist and is not a hoax) |
